Before anyone can truly love you, you need to be able to love yourself. Loving yourself isn’t about being over confident, or thinking that you are the best at everything. It’s about accepting yourself for who you are, and working with it. We spend so much of our lives yearning to be loved, and looking for friends, partners or other people to love us, and tell us so. Yet, there are so many people who fail to even love themselves. So, we’ve put together the ultimate guide in loving yourself!
Tip # 1 Be honest with yourself.
Write down a realistic evaluation of yourself. Do this by yourself, and do it honestly. Write down all your good points. Write down all your bad points. Write down what you want to improve. Become aware of how you treat others, and ask yourself whether you deserve what you get from other people.
Tip # 2 Let go of the negativity about yourself.
Realise that everyone has their good points and bad points. Stop feeling that you are not worthy of love because you have made some mistakes or have some negative traits. If you see yourself as a greedy, jealous, envious or lazy person, then congratulations. You’ve admitted it to yourself. Now, if you really want to change those traits, you can.
Tip # 3 Concentrate on your good points.
Whenever you feel bad about something, stop that thought. Hold it. Now, consciously change it to thinking something positive. Keep a list of your positive traits, or things you appreciate about yourself. Maybe you’re a good listener, or are good at mental arithmetic. Even the tiniest things – maybe you painted your nails well, or finished reading that book – can change your perspective. Focus on the positive.
Tip # 4 Keep a diary
Write down everything you feel. It’s a release. Writing is very therapeutic and allows you to be honest with yourself. Keep your diary private and write in it as often as you need to. Write the good, the bad and the in between stuff. Write funny quotes, inspiring words, draw pictures, stick in photos or clippings from magazines or newspapers which make you smile or think. Remember: you’ve only got this very moment once, so make the most of it.
