In order to keep a relationship happy and healthy, you need to work at it. A great relationship needs to have trust, love, commitment and fun. Both partners need to want the same results from the relationships, and have similar hopes and dreams. How can you accomplish this? Read on!
1. Talk.
Sounds simple, but do you REALLY talk to your partner? Sometimes it seems that you have spent all evening chatting, but you might not have got what is really bothering you off your mind. Talk about everything – how you feel, what went well with your day, what is frustrating you. Be completely open and honest with each other.
2. Work out your common goals.
Discuss and decide what you both want to achieve in your lives and within the relationship. Work out if you are both going in the same direction, and where you need to think more clearly about your future.
3. Schedule alone time.
Make sure that you both have time to pursue your own individual interests. Whether it’s a weekly football club you attend, or a girls night out every month, don’t forget what you did before the relationship, and bear in mind that some of these past times or interests contributed to the original attraction between you both!
4. Go on a date.
When you’ve been in a relationship for a while, it can seem like everything greys into one average ongoing experience. Plan a date at least once a month where you both get dressed up and go somewhere special. It needn’t be expensive, but it should involve you both putting in the effort. Treat your partner every once in a while – they will love it!
5. Plan your money.
Up there with infidelity, the worst thing you can do in a relationship is lie about money, particularly if you live together. Work out a system that suits you both, so that household bills and grocery shopping doesn’t become an issue every month. Set budgets and keep to them!
